   Fun in Norwich

This was my first tour with the Valentine Singers having joined the choir in Autumn 2004.  I have to say I went with some trepidation, as I still feel quite inexperienced as a singer and didn’t want to let the choir down.

We met on Saturday morning in Barkingside had a very smooth coach journey up to Ludham in Norfolk, arriving about midday.  We had all taken packed lunches (picnics I should say) and we found a great place to look at the Broads and to watch both the ducks and people on their riverboats, (rather them than me trying to reverse a boat into a docking space).

The practice started at 3pm and zoomed by before we all galloped off to do a quick change into concert clothes.  The concert started at 5pm and although it was quite a small attendance was thoroughly enjoyed by all.  Christine Gwynn, the Musical Director is excellent but has a hard job with a large choir to get focused and organised!!

We had supper in the local pub and with it a chance to get to know the others better in a relaxed atmosphere.

Then it was off to the Travel Inn for our overnight stay which was just a short distance from our next venue, St George’s Church in central Norwich, for Morning Service.  This was a very old, beautiful church and well worth a visit.  Apparently it has the best organ in Norwich; it certainly sounded wonderful.  We then had an hour or so of free time, which had me making a beeline for the nearest Café Nero leaving just enough time for a quick look at the shops and Sunday market (ho hum).

After this it was back to the coach for the drive to lunch at The Scole Inn, Scole, which was very pleasant. (It was a real chore having to eat all this nice food!)

Sunday afternoon was a complete change. We performed in a large garden on a farm to our largest audience of the weekend, raising over £500 for Montgomery Heights Orphanage in  Zimbabwe. This was the first time I have sung formally out of doors, a strange experience but good fun too.

I really enjoyed both the performances and getting to know other members.  I will definitely join the tours again and am looking forward to going to Italy in 2006 with the Choir.
